Time Flies
Well, time has certainly moved quickly since I last posted. It is now spring and the boat project has moved forward considerably. I will bring you up to speed in the next few posts.
I am an accountant/finance professional by trade; however, I have a not so secret desire to work in confined places, do difficult things while my body is in contoured positions, and inhale large quantities of dust and dangerous chemicals. And if this work occurs in a cold, dark and damp environment, I am in heaven.
Feet of Abandoned Wire Removed: Lost count somewhere over 300' Useless circuits, switches and fuses removed: 15 Wire nuts removed: 6 from actively used wires, 4 vacuumed up from the bilge. Recovered cut/broken cable ties: probably 12 from the bilge and abosolutely 1 from the bilge pump. Pounds of useless copper tubing/plumbing: 25 Gallons of Bottom Paint: 2 Sq Feet of New Deck (Cork):200 Gallons of Epoxy:3 Rolls of paper towels for clean deck: 24 Number of deck screws removed: Don't know but probably a gallon jug of them. Gallons of solvent to remove deck adhesive: 2 Rubber gloves: Almost used up a box of 100 pair Burned up equipment: 1 belt sander, 1 ShopVac, 1 saber saw, 1 orbital sander, 1 caulking gun, 1 multi-meter Smashed knuckles: 8 (same two knuckles 4 times) Worn out knees: no more than 2 (go figure) Hours of labor: 400-500 Project Completed: Probably never Pounds of dust inhaled: Probably two
Repair steering: Done- new part fashioned Replace teak decks: Done Replace DC breaker board: In progress- new board ready just need to connect wires Strip bottom, cabin trunk and cockpit sole: Only going to paint cockpit-deferred other areas to next year Rebuild cockpit console and table: Done Redesign and build propane locker: Done Rebuild cockpit table: Done Remove alternator, fuel pumps and water pumps for winter rebuild: Done- New 100Amp alternator from Hamilton Ferris Rebuild interior chain plate covers: Passed on until next year Sand and revarnish cabin sole panels: Done Manufacture new cushions throughout: Done- Prison trade center did it good and cheap, not fast. Sand, paint and varnish interior: Done (just paint) Rebuild cabin sole cross ties in v-berth: Done Sand, etch, prime and paint stanchions: Done Replace copper plumbing: Done- replaced with hose Clean and regrease winches: Done Sand and varnish v-berth door: Done Replace bulge pump and hose: Done- new thru-hull and siphon break (missing from original boat) New engine guages: Done Rebuild locker covers: Done Repaired and refinish forward hatch: Done Repaired broken v-berth locker top: Done Unseize emergency tiller cover: Done Rebuild hot water heater: Done Replace below water line hoses: Done Re-bed thru-hulls: Done (in conjunction with new DS and KM) Fix manual bilge pump: Done (new hose and baffle) Fix manual galley pump: Rebuild kit on order Disable AC service: Done (way too dangerous to leave installed) Install conduit for all wiring: Done Degrease bilge: Done
